On the afternoon of March 26, 2026, the Darien Police Department responded to an incident on the 1000 block of Janet Avenue involving a subject experiencing a mental health crisis.
Out of an abundance of caution, a community alert was issued asking residents in the immediate area to remain indoors while officers worked to resolve the situation. The incident was contained to the residence, and at no time was there a threat to the surrounding community. Local schools were also notified as a precautionary measure.
The situation was resolved peacefully. The subject was taken into protective custody. There are no criminal charges at this time.
The Darien Police Department would like to extend its sincere gratitude to the law enforcement agencies that assisted during this incident, including the Lisle Police Department, Downers Grove Police Department, Woodridge Police Department, Westmont Police Department, DuPage County Sheriff's Office, and the DuPage Metropolitan Emergency Response and Investigation Team (MERIT). Their swift response and professionalism were invaluable to the safe resolution of this incident.
