The City of Darien is advising residents, property owners, businesses, and not-for-profit organizations that federal disaster assistance is now available through the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for damage associated with the severe weather that affected the area July 2–4, 2026.
THE CITY OF DARIEN URGES RESIDENTS TO SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH NEIGHBORS, FRIENDS, AND FAMILY MEMBERS WHO MAY NOT HAVE ACCESS TO ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS OR SOCIAL MEDIA AND WHO MAY HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY THE RECENT FLOODING.
The SBA has approved a disaster declaration for Kane County, making residents and businesses in contiguous counties, including DuPage County, eligible to apply for long-term, low-interest disaster loans for qualifying storm-related damages.
This assistance may be available for eligible damages not covered by insurance or other sources of recovery assistance.
Available Assistance
- Homeowners: Up to $500,000 to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate.
- Homeowners and renters: Up to $100,000 to repair or replace damaged or destroyed personal property.
- Businesses and private not-for-profit organizations: Up to $2 million for physical disaster damage.
Eligible businesses may also qualify for Economic Injury Disaster Loans to help address operating expenses resulting from the disaster.
The deadline to apply for assistance for physical damage is October 5, 2026. The deadline to apply for Economic Injury Disaster Loans is May 5, 2027.
Disaster Loan Outreach Center
An SBA Disaster Loan Outreach Center (DLOC) has been established at the following location, providing residents and businesses with an opportunity to receive in-person assistance with the application process and questions regarding available disaster loans:

Residents are encouraged to bring documentation regarding storm-related damage, insurance coverage, and other information that may assist SBA representatives in evaluating their application.

Applicants may also contact the SBA Customer Service Center at (800) 659-2955 or by email at disastercustomerservice@sba.gov. Individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have a speech disability may dial 711 for relay services.
The City of Darien encourages residents and businesses that experienced qualifying damage during the July 2–4 severe weather events to review the SBA assistance available and determine whether they may be eligible.
