Every year, hundreds of new laws are proposed by the Illinois legislature. Some become law while others do not. Mayor Marchese serves on the DMMC (DuPage Mayors’ and Managers Conference) Legislative Committee and closely follows proposed legislation. Currently, there is proposed legislation—referred to as the BUILD Housing proposals, which aims to address housing affordability. While communities are acknowledging that goal, the DMMC emphasized concerns about how the proposed legislation would shift zoning decision-making away from local communities. Elmhurst Mayor Scott Levin, past president of DMMC, has prepared a short video that expresses local government concerns about the BUILD Housing legislation. We urge residents to contact their state representatives and ask them to oppose this proposed legislation.
