The city has received inquiries about the plans to demolish the Castle Eden (The White House). This is located on the grounds of the Carmelite Spiritual Center in Darien.
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel parish bulletin included the following statement, “There is some concern in the Darien community about the Carmelite-owned building on the corner of Frontage Road and Baily Road known as the White House. It has been approved for demolition. The house is in no way connected to the parish, and the parish has had no input in the planning.”
The Society of Mt. Carmel did begin the demolition permit process, and the city has issued a demolition permit. The decision to demolish the White House is one made solely by the Carmelites, and the city was obligated to issue the permit once it was approved.
