"We must never trust in what we assume, only in what we know " - Darren Shan
In today’s fast-moving world, it has become increasingly common for conclusions to be drawn before all the facts are known. Recently, our community welcomed a new business to Darien; an occasion that brought together residents, elected officials, and staff in a spirit of optimism and growth. As part of their introduction to the community, the business made a generous, independent decision to support a local Darien school district through a donation.
While many recognized this as a positive gesture, some individuals, without full knowledge of the circumstances, assumed the City played a role in directing that contribution. This led to inaccurate and, at times, misleading statements being shared publicly through social media. To be clear, the City of Darien was not involved in the planning of the event or the decision regarding the donation.
Healthy dialogue and accountability are essential to a strong community. However, when assumptions are presented as facts, it can create unnecessary division and undermine the very progress we seek to build together. I encourage everyone to seek accurate information, ask questions, and engage in constructive conversations that reflect the values of our community.
Darien remains committed to transparency, fairness, and fostering positive partnerships that benefit all residents.
